Potter Accuses Abbate Of Making Neighborhood A Police State. CSI Investigated Cops Raided The Dunkin Donuts, Due To A New Flavor Donut..

Assemblyman Peter Abbate is using manipulative tactics to scare voters by sending out adverts which say “Peter Abbate is endorsed by the people who protect us” and showing him enshrined in uniformed citizens. While I don’t like fear mongering in politics, it’s nothing all that original. But there is one more layer to this story: my neighborhood of Bay Ridge is a lot of older folks. That’s fine; but that’s the truth; it’s older folks, families, and younger folks looking for a break on Manhattan rents while still being able to reap the benefits of living on a train line (the latter is me and my wife; we are in large part the absent minority). But one thing caught my eye recently; maybe a week or two ago. There was a uniformed officer, just after dusk, walking the beat, in my neighborhood.

Now, my neighborhood is not at all “live” or anything like that. Across the street there is an elementary school and church, down the road there’s the dry cleaners, a couple of restaurants, but they all close by 10 PM at the latest; other than that it’s mostly just residences. Up the block a spell there is a 24 hour Dunkin Doughnuts, a 24 hour Burger King and a 24 hour 7-11 on the other side of the D train. But that’s up the block a spell and not even really where I would consider “my neighborhood.” Besides that, even if that were my neighborhood, it is a mystery to me how these businesses stay open 24 hours. They are never busy; even during the daytime; I’ve trolled the area overnight; looking for some action (not that kind of action) but just something to take me back to the feel of Manhattan; there’s been nothing.

Besides those aren’t even really “my neighborhoods” either. My neighborhoods are more than two avenues away which may be 1/3 of a mile.

So seeing a uniformed officer was something of an anomaly. But I thought nothing of it; it was late but I figured maybe someone important was in the area or maybe the poor guy got lost. …Until I saw another uniformed officer the next night.

This was officer sightings as though they were walking the beat in my suburban town; call it Pleasantville, if you will. As we’re always told how officers are in short supply, you would figure that they would all be waiting by the phone at the station house or at least driving the beat so they could spring into action at a moment’s notice.

Nope. This guy was just twirling his billy-club like there was nothing much to do. So on the third night, I approached him.

“Hey, officer, what’s going on?”

This was a question he’d gotten before, obviously: “We’re just keeping post in the neighborhood because there have been some domestic complaints.”

Oh, well, domestic complaints. They could start by talking to my downstairs neighbor; he’s always yelling at off hours. But then I got to thinking; about that Peter Abbate postcard; the one with pictures of the Assemblyman with all the officers; and it began to well a sinking feeling over me. I hadn’t heard of any violence in our neighborhood…The officers keep coming back; as do the Re-Elect Peter Abbate postcards…

…Is this what we’ve come to? A military state where the officers invade neighborhoods in the night just to make sure that the right lever is pulled on Election Day? Shudder to think; has it already happened?

Potter is desperate and posting things that are years old from equally as unbalanced people. She is a very disturbed woman who realizes that she is a "never-was." (Can't be a "has been" since she "never was.) Time for Potter to give it up and sell some floor tiles. Hopefully that is not above her emotional level.

I think she needs to be sent to shadybrook and make some tiles in the day room

Whew just got back from 18th avenue, was strip searched by 12 female cops which wasn't too bad. However, they then turn me over to the male cops and I had to run back and forth to dunkin donuts for coffee and donuts.
