Gov. Andrew Cuomo got a warm reception from the crowd at tonight's Association of Black and Puerto Rican Legislators' annual dinner.

Warm, that is, until the governor was interrupted during his speech by City Councilman Charles Barron, who who tried to lead the crowd in a revolt against Cuomo's budget cuts with chants of "Stop the Cuts" and "Tax the Rich."

“Shame on you,” Barron (D-Brooklyn) yelled at Cuomo after walking from the back of the Albany Convention Center to the front.

Cuomo has proposed a budget calling for deep cuts in education and health care spending to bail the state out of a financial hole. He also opposes an extension of the state's so-called millionaires tax, which Baron and many in the audience want to extend.

Ironically, Cuomo's speech was about unity and the need for the state to come together to meet the immense budget crisis.

“Yes we have challenges,” the governor told the legislators. “But we are going to meet those challenges together.”

But Barron, a known rabble-rouser, seized the moment, yelling, “Tax the rich!”

Soon the chant echoed throughout the auditorium as some of the 400 to 500 legislators on hand joined in, repeating “Tax the rich!”

“How are you tonight, Charles,” Cuomo said to Barron after the interruption. “I can’t see who it is, but I know who it is.”

Earlier, Barron called Cuomo’s budget proposal “Draconian.”

“It is cutting us to the bone,” Barron told the Daily News. “Tax the rich. Don’t come to the table saying the only thing you’re going to do is cut.
