On Tuesday night, members of our community turned out to St.Finbar’s Parish confraternity center to have their voices be heard. State Senator Marty Golden is the only elected official in our region who gives constituents this crucial outlet, as one can only assume that others like Assemblyman Abbate are simply too frightened of the peoples’ opinions.Due to the mess that has been created in Albany and a 90+days late budget, Gov. Paterson called an emergency session that prevented Sen.Golden from attending. In his stead however, were his staff and a large panel of representatives from various government agencies.
It suffices to say that people were very angry. Like all ofthe folks I know in our community, it is clear that people feel like government doesn’t care about them anymore. Whether it is the smell from the Owl’s Head plant, rising water bills, unchecked underage drinking or our failing public transportation system, people are sick of inactive government.
"Everyone wonders the very same thing, namely: why do I pay so much in taxes and work so hard andfollow all the rules to get so little in return from my government?"
This year we must stand together to end inequitable government. We have a state that only works for a few and always takes care of the majority party’s members (Democrats in the Assembly and State Senate). Everyday I am fighting to change that. With your help I be our community’s voice hear in Albany for the first time in nearly 25 years.
